I would think a DSP should be considered mainly for it's audio quality and features. FWIW, I have no issues using a Windows based computer but get quite lost when I have to use a Mac anything. I suppose I'm just so accustomed to Windows. While sound quality and reliability are critical, usability is also a huge consideration.

Having to maintain a windows operating system is an expensive proposition for someone with all macs. I would gladly give that money to the company that builds mac compatible hardware and software instead. Brian, I understand that you drink the kool aid. It is not a particularly expensive proposition to run Windows on a Mac. How much does a copy of Windoze cost?

Forgive me if this has already been asked but is it possible to run the Driverack 260 software with a mac? I only see a windows option on the web-site. Os X ships with Boot Camp. Parallels or Fusion is under $80 if you want the 'convenience' of running a Windoze program inside of OS X (my preference). Quit yer cryin' fer krissake. Exactly how much money are you going to give somebody to write this Mac software for you. 5 (or 10?) years ago I gave some guy on this board (can't remember his name) $500 to write some Mac software (can't remember what it was). Ask Riley, he'll remember.

Guess what, after about 2 years of BS the guy just sort of evaporated and the Mac vapor ware disappeared along with him. So what I'm saying is I've been there and done that and got the T shirt. I've put my money where your mouth is.

The lesson I learned is, if a software company doesn't see enough profit in writing their software to run on the Mac platform, they won't write it, and my whining and crying and $500. Isn't going to change that. I run every program that takes me where I want to go under OS X, if available. If I HAVE to go somewhere in software world that lives in Windoze, I put on my rubber gloves and go there. I go anywhere I want or need to go. All on a Mac.

I'm not bitchin, life didn't used to be nearly this good. Steve Payne wrote on Tue, 20 July 2010 00:21 Brian, I understand that you drink the kool aid. It is not a particularly expensive proposition to run Windows on a Mac. How much does a copy of Windoze cost?

Well, let's see. A copy of Windows is about $200. OEMs can be had for less, but then you can't switch machines as regularly as I do. Then there's parallels. And then anti-virus software. You're looking at almost half the cost of that DriveRack 260 just to be able to run the software!!

It isn't that hard for a company to write software that is compatible on both platforms if they plan from the beginning to do that. Like I said, if I were deciding between 2 processors with similar features, quality and reliability, the one that had Mac native support would win, hands down.
